Blogs I Read

  • Solvr
Just ran across this, haven't tested it, but it brings instant goosebumps. I just could be one of the greatest shortcuts from the "itch you can't quite scratch" stage to the "Eureka!" stage. Be glad to discuss it with others who might be as hungry as I to develop creativity skills.

Doug Dillard started this to build stories of the thirty years of cataclysmic changes he recorded as cartoonist for The Baptist Standard and other religious periodicals. But it has grownto a personal memoir of his long pilgrimage as a Christian minister and creativity consultant.

Group 1 spells fun

  • Group1_1009_048
Group 1, our largest of eight care groups, includes most of the singles, widows, and widowers in our class. They meet monthly for a pot luck supper and annually invite the teacher and outgoing director and spouses to an appreciation dinner.

Lunch Bunch

  • Lunch112105_045
Sunday lunches after worship began as a thoughtful gesture by members Ed and Bess Moore. It was an attempt to introduce some of our newer members, many of whom had been in his class when he taught at Prestonwood Baptist, to some of the "regulars" in our class. It started out with just a table full. Now we will usually have one to two dozen at Luby's. Recently, a few who craved more variety, have started posting options for the Sunday Lunch Bunch. It remains a great way to integrate new members in our growing fellowship.

Meal Ministry

  • Meals_lastbunch3_05072006
The Dillard Class has always shown care for members during times of bereavement and illness by bringing in home-cooked meals during the times they needed it most. In 2005, Marah Dillard became home-bound during her 13-year bout with chronic bronchiactasis. Marah had been class secretary as long as Doug has taught the class. She missed Sunday School terribly, and missed her Friday "date nights" when Doug always took her out. Under the direction of our Inreach Team, class members started bringing meals each Friday and spending a few minutes cheering her up and feeling connected once again. Marah went home to the Lord at 2:40 PM Sunday, May 28, 2006.

Sounds wonderful, Doug. But try as I might, I can't open the photos. I'm working on a MAC - perhaps there is some software I need???
